- The pairing works best when the heading is short: a single name or a three-word phrase benefits most from a display style, while a full sentence in a heading alphabet reads slowly and dilutes the visual impact.
- Use the body style for a supporting label, a tagline, a handle, or a short bio line: a pair where the heading draws the eye and the body provides context is the structure behind every polished profile or business card.
- If the pairing does not feel right after a few shuffles, try anchoring the body style first and then choosing the heading: what works as a heading depends partly on what it sits above.
Common mistakes
- Applying the heading style to a long sentence: the display alphabets are designed for impact at short lengths. A full paragraph or a long bio in a decorative heading style is harder to read and makes the styling feel like a mistake rather than a choice.
- Using the same weight in both roles: a heading that is bold and a body that is bold-italic may look matched, but the lack of contrast means the eye does not know which line is more important.

How is this different from the font pairing on the Font Advisor?
They solve different problems. The Font Advisor's pairing recommends real Google Fonts, actual font files for design software when you are setting a logo or invitation in a real typeface. This tool pairs two of this site's own Unicode text styles, for pasting a styled heading and body straight into a bio, a card, or a caption without any design software at all.
Why can the heading style be decorative but not the body style?
A short heading can carry a slower-to-read style because there is only one line of it and it is meant to draw the eye. Supporting text is read in full, so pairing it with anything but a highly legible style just makes the whole composition harder to get through. The generator enforces this by only offering high-legibility styles for the body role.
Can I use the same style for both heading and body?
The picker will not offer the heading alphabet again in the body list, on purpose: a pairing tool that suggests two roles in the same alphabet is not really pairing anything. If you want both lines in one style, the full font generator handles that directly.
