About the Strikethrough Text Generator
This Strikethrough Text Generator adds a clean line through each character using Unicode combining marks, so the effect survives copy and paste.
Use it for crossed-out prices, playful edits, or the classic "not what I meant" joke: anywhere plain strikethrough is not available.
Sources: The Unicode Consortium.
Step by step
How to use the Strikethrough Text Generator
Type your text, pick a style, copy it, and paste it wherever you want strikethrough text.
Type your text
Type or paste your text into the box at the top of the page. Every style updates live as you type, so you are previewing your own words rather than a sample.
Pick a style
Scroll the list and find a style you like. Use the search box to filter by name, or the "only styles people can still search for" toggle if the text needs to stay findable.
Copy it
Press Copy on that style. The styled text goes to your clipboard exactly as shown, including any spacing or marks.
Paste it
Paste it wherever you need it. Because the styling is built from real Unicode characters, it travels with the text into apps that give you no font settings of their own.
Get it right
Tips and common mistakes
Tips
- Strikethrough works on any script: because the line is a combining mark added on top of existing characters rather than a replacement alphabet, it applies equally to Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, or any other Unicode text you type.
- The most readable use is a single struck-through word or short phrase alongside plain text: "Was $50, now $20" or "Mistakes were made̶ ̶(̶f̶i̶x̶e̶d̶)̶". The contrast reads clearly because the rest of the text is normal.
- Try the double-strikethrough variant for a heavier, more emphatic cross-out when you want it to look deliberate rather than accidental.
Common mistakes
- Striking through a full paragraph: the combining marks slow reading considerably over a long run, and the effect loses impact when everything is crossed out.
- Using strikethrough for a username or a display name you want people to search: search tools match the plain letters, not the combining marks, so a struck-through name is harder to find and harder to remember.
- Expecting a consistent weight across every app: some apps render the combining-mark line thinner or thicker than others, so a strikethrough that looks clean in one chat may appear doubled or broken in another.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does strikethrough work on any language, not just English?
Yes. Strikethrough here is a Unicode combining mark added on top of whatever character you type, rather than a substitute alphabet, so it works on Hindi, Arabic, Cyrillic and any other script exactly as well as on English letters.
Why does my strikethrough look thin or broken in some apps?
Some apps render combining marks with more or less spacing than others, so the line can look thin, doubled, or slightly offset depending on where you paste it. This is a rendering difference between apps rather than a fault in the text: the underlying characters are identical everywhere.
Will this style show up correctly everywhere I paste it?
This style adds a few combining marks to every letter (about 5 on a five-letter word here, roughly 2× the plain length). Most apps render it fine, but a field with a strict character limit can cut it off mid-word, and some older apps clip the marks that stack furthest from the letter.
Can people search for my name after I use this style?
Not reliably. These characters do not carry a standard mapping back to the plain alphabet, so a search for the ordinary spelling of a name may not find text in this style. Fine for decoration, worth avoiding for a name people need to look up.
Is the Strikethrough Text Generator free to use?
Yes. The Strikethrough Text Generator is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and no limits on how much text you convert or how many times you copy it.
